Off-Campus Access to Boreham Library Online ServicesThe online Research Databases, Electronic Reserves and eBooks can be used from off-campus ONLY by
currently registered students, faculty and staff, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, during semesters. |
Your "Internet Browser" is the program you use to access the Internet. For Windows users, the most common one is
Internet Explorer, but there is an alternative.
Library pages have been tested for viewing with:
(version 2.0.0.1 or later)(also available (older version) on the Library Software CD-ROM), or version 2.0.0.1. Remember to also get the Java plugin and install it - instructions are shown. |
MS Internet Explorer 6 with Service Pack 1 or 2(You must get SP1 and upgrade to SP2 from that) OR MS Internet Explorer 7 (7.0.5730.11 or later) |
If you are using another version of these browsers, OR A VERSION OF THESE GIVEN TO YOU BY YOUR INTERNET SERVICE PROVIDER (which may have been customized for them), or another browser, you may not be able to access all the services. Most of these are a free download from the sites linked. or you can check out the Library Software CD-ROM with tested software to install on your computer.
How to check your browser version.
Microsoft Internet Explorer users ALERT!
Microsoft is known to issue patches and upgrades which may have unforeseen side effects on your Internet Explorer browser,
and may sometimes block access or printing from library services.
You may try using one of the other browsers above instead if you are having trouble when using Internet Explorer.

(Going through LionsLink is not required for use of the Research Databases.)
A currently valid student number is required for use of the databases from off-campus.

Remember - you must be registered THIS SEMESTER and the semester must have already begun to use these resources!
Remember: you must go connect to eBooks through the Boreham Library web site or the link in the Online Catalog record to be recognized as a UA Fort Smith user.
In NetLibrary, the "Your Library" box should say Welcome to the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith eContent Collection near the top of the screen - if not, go through the Boreham Library web site or the Online Catalog record link again.
For the other eBooks, you should be able to just click on the link to go to them directly.
To view the eBook, click on View this eBook.
If there is a note stating Viewing Requirements: Adobe® Reader® 4.0 or higher is required for online viewing. then you will need to have the free Adobe Acrobat Reader installed. Click

HOWEVER, if you are in Adobe Acrobat Reader, be sure to use the Adobe Acrobat Reader print button instead.
Using the Notes feature to attach your own notes to an eBook requires you to set up your own account.
Please note: the Boreham Library has purchased reading rights to a number of titles, but not all the titles offered by NetLibrary. Some titles may not be available. You may suggest that the Library consider purchasing ebook versions of any titles offered by NetLibrary which are not yet owned.
Remember - you must be registered THIS SEMESTER and the semester must have already begun to use these resources!
Please note that Library staff are not normally trained for WebCT and do not normally have access to WebCT functions.
While not part of the Boreham Library services, you may access WebCT courses at http://creative.uafortsmith.edu
Your instructor will provide the URL (link) to the appropriate web site for your class.
The Library Software CD-ROM is available for checkout by currently registered students at the Library circulation desk.
It contains the versions of the software needed to access the Boreham Library online services. However, you must already have an Internet Service Provider arrangement (for example: Alltel, Cox, AOL, or one of the many other services).
Warning: Many ISPs provide a copy of Microsoft Internet Explorer when you sign up. This version may not be fully functional, and may not be able to use all of the library's services. You may download a complete version of this from Microsoft, but this will be a large file and may take more than two hours over a telephone (dial-up) connection. OR - you can use the Firefox browser on the Library Software CD-ROM.
Instructions for installing the software on a Windows 98, Me, 2000, or XP system computer with a CD-ROM drive are included in the case or available online by clicking here.
The browser you install may or may not be able to dial your computer's ISP (Internet Service Provider), depending on how your ISP's original software configured your computer. If it can't connect:
Your new browser should now be able to use the existing phone connection to access the Internet.
The Boreham Library regrets that there is, at present, no way for library staff to test access via Macintosh software. We suggest you try the Mac version of Firefox 2.0.0.1 or later (also remember to get Java for your Mac), and follow the other relevant instructions here.
The University of Arkansas - Fort Smith does not have open wireless access for the public.
However, student and faculty wireless access to the system while on campus in certain buildings may be obtained through the Computer Help Desk's wireless information page.
To get wireless access, you must:
Wireless Setup explains the latest information on setting up your own wireless connection.
The Library is not capable of arranging this for you. However, once you have access, you may use your own laptop over the library's wireless network while inside the building.
